Body found in woods near missing man’s abandoned car, Georgia police say
The search for a missing man from Middle Georgia led police to a body in the woods — roughly 100 miles away, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Dawson Brandon Lee, 24, was missing for a week before officers found remains they presume to be his in Elbert County on Wednesday, April 24, authorities said.
A body was discovered around noon, near Lee’s abandoned car, investigators said in a news release.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI for help in the search for the Milledgeville man. Deputies said he was reported missing on April 17.
Investigators analyzed Lee’s car data and learned he traveled to Elbert County that day, the GBI said.
The remains will be taken for an autopsy to determine the cause of death and positively identify the man’s body, authorities said.
“Although the initial investigation indicates the man found is Dawson Brandon Lee, the results of the autopsy will confirm it,” the agency said.
Authorities didn’t release additional details but said they don’t suspect foul play.
Deputies said they have ended their search for Lee.
Elbert County is about a 110-mile drive northeast from downtown Atlanta.
