A “campsite horror story” unfolded in the swampy woods of southern Louisiana when a naked woman came out of nowhere and started chasing a man with an ax, according to police.

It happened in Slidell — as the total solar eclipse was “looming” — and a suspect is in custody, police said.

“Let us set the scene. The woods, a campsite, a generous citizen and a nude woman with an (ax),” Slidell police wrote.

“According to the victim, he has been helping a homeless gentleman get back on his feet and make it back home to Mississippi. While checking on the gentleman in a nearby patch of woods, he encountered an angry female, who was completely nude and armed with an old rusty (ax).”

A suspect has been arrested, and police found an ax believed to be the weapon involved, officials said.

The woman, whom he’d never seen before, raised the ax above her head and began chasing him, the victim told police.

“Fearing for his safety, the victim ran out of the woods with the woman following closely behind him, still armed with the (ax),” police said.

“The victim was able to outrun the woman and make it safely back to his vehicle. The woman was last seen walking down a public roadway … still bearing all of her glory!”

The identity of the victim, who escaped injury, has not been released.

As for the suspect, she slipped away unnoticed, despite being naked in public, police said.

It’s a story that might raise eyebrows in some parts of the country, but Slidell is in voodoo country, about a 30-mile drive northeast from New Orleans across Lake Pontchartrain.

Slidell police say something similar happened before, and they had a suspect in mind.

She was arrested Tuesday, April 9, “completely clothed this time,” and police found an ax, photos show.

Charges included aggravated assault and obscenity, second offense, officials said.

“Yes, this isn’t the first time this lady has been caught strutting around in her birthday suit,” police said.

“Narcotics use is suspected of being a factor in this egregious attempted attack on the victim.”
