5-year-old killed after driving ATV in front of family’s tractor, NE officials say

A 5-year-old Nebraska boy is dead after a tractor collided with the ATV he was in, according to officials.

Deputies responded to the scene south of Hay Springs, in rural Sheridan County, on March 8 to “investigate an accident,” the county attorney’s office said in a March 11 news release.

Investigators say the boy was driving an ATV and drove in front of a tractor that a family member was operating, officials said.

The boy was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital, according to officials.

“This matter remains under investigation pending an autopsy,” the release said. “No criminal charges are anticipated at this time.”

Hay Springs is about a 420-mile drive northwest of Omaha.
