A 4-year-old left his home and ended up lost from his family for hours until he was found along a dark road in Oregon, troopers said.

The boy wandered away at about 5:30 p.m. Feb. 3 in Grand Ronde when it was cold and dark, the Oregon State Police said in a Feb. 9 news release.

He went onto his family’s 20-acre property that is filled with thick vegetation, troopers said. The property has also experienced recent predator attacks on livestock.

Rescuers were called to help find the child about two hours after he had gone missing, troopers said.

One trooper spotted the boy at about 9:30 p.m. near a pullout along Highway 18, officials said.

When he approached the child, the boy asked, “Can you take me home?”

Troopers said the child was medically evaluated and had minor injuries from a fall.

Grand Ronde is about 70 miles southwest of Portland.
