McDonald’s launches new galactic-themed restaurant chain. Where is CosMc’s opening?
McDonald’s unveiled its latest addition to the global restaurant chain’s fast food universe — and it’s coming to the Midwest first.
The company announced the launch of CosMc’s, a “small-format, beverage-led” restaurant chain, which is slated to open approximately 10 locations by the end of 2024 to test the concept, according to a Dec. 6 McDonald’s news release. The space-themed cafe will feature a wide range of drinks, as well as some lighter snack options, the company said.
Inspired by a fringe McDonald’s character that appeared in some commercials in the 1990s, CosMc’s “looks, feels and serves its customers differently than a traditional McDonald’s restaurant.” It will feature a few “McDonald’s favorites” on its menu, however.
Where will CosMc’s be located?
The soft opening is Friday, Dec. 8, a McDonald’s spokesperson told McClatchy News, but the store will not turn people away Thursday, Dec. 7. There are also “opening celebrations” scheduled for the weekend, the spokesperson said.
What will be on CosMc’s menu?
There is an expansive variety of vibrant drinks available to order at CosMc’s including “Signature Galactic Boosts,” iced teas, lemonades, slushes, frappes and coffees, according to the CosMc’s menu.
Some specific drink options include a Sour Cherry Energy Burst, Popping Pear Slush, Churro Frappe, Blueberry Ginger Boost and Turmeric Spiced Latte.
There are also a few sandwiches available — such as the Spicy Queso Sandwich and Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich — and other snacks like McPops, which are made up of fried dough stuffed with different sweet fillings.
A handful of existing McDonald’s items made the menu: the egg McMuffin, the sausage McMuffin with egg, the bacon McMuffin with egg, an OREO McFlurry and an M&M’s McFlurry.
With more than 40 drinks on the menu, CosMc’s allows customers to customize their drinks with an array of additions. Those include Vitamin C shots, popping boba, syrups and caffeine.
There will also be nondairy, low sugar, and calorie- and gluten-free options available at the new test chain. There items on the menu are mostly vegetarian aside from the sandwiches and snack box, the company said on its website.
How will ordering at CosMc’s work?
CosMc’s will use interactive menu boards for customers to order in the store, the release said, as well as “cashless payment devices.” Drive-thru lanes are available for pickup, and customers can also order ahead online.
