Person seen floating in creek on furniture cushion, then they vanished, OR rescuers say
A person was spotted floating on an outdoor furniture cushion on a “swollen” stream following heavy rain, fire officials in Oregon said.
Then they disappeared.
A witness called authorities Dec. 4 after seeing what they believed was someone being swept down Johnson Creek while atop a cushion, the Portland Fire and Rescue said on Twitter, now rebranded as X.
Rescuers searched the area using a drone, boat and water rescue teams, fire officials said.
A “similar cushion” was discovered downstream in a debris strainer, but there was no “indication” of a person, officials said.
The rescue effort was then handed over to a law enforcement agency.
Johnson Creek starts near Boring, Oregon, passes through Portland and flows a total of 26 miles to the Willamette River in Milwaukie, according to the city of Portland.
The Portland area experienced heavy rain over the weekend, which prompted flood alerts, the National Weather Service in Portland posted on X.
