A Texas father is dead after intervening in a fight between his daughters and a group of teenage girls, according to police.

Officers with the San Antonio Police Department responded to a call about a shooting in a neighborhood on the city’s west side at about 9 p.m. on Oct. 24, the department said in a news release.

Investigators say a group of teenage girls went to the home looking to fight with two girls who lived there, the release said. During the brawl, the father of the two girls stepped in and “was shot several times,” police said.

He was also repeatedly stabbed, police told WOAI.

The violent confrontation was the result of a long-simmering feud between the teens, police told the outlet.

When officers arrived at the scene, the father was lying wounded in the street, according to police. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance but died from his injuries.

Neighbors told police they could hear a loud argument outside, then gunshots, KENS reported. Whoever shot the man ran away, but home security cameras captured the fight and police are searching for a suspect, the outlet reported.
