A convicted bank robber just months into parole is back behind bars, authorities in Michigan said.

That’s because he robbed another bank, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Shannon Donald Sexton, 53, was paroled in April following a 2014 federal bank robbery conviction, according to an Oct. 23 news release. The parole was scheduled in end in 2025.

But about six months after his release, Sexton robbed a credit union in Independence Township, authorities said.

He entered the bank Thursday, Oct. 19, and handed the teller a note demanding they empty the cash drawer, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities said he then ran away with “an undisclosed amount of money.”

Witnesses reported he was wearing a neon yellow and green hoodie, a blue face mask and dark sunglasses.

Through an investigation, detectives learned what kind of vehicle the man was driving and connected it to a rental agency, authorities said. Less than 24 hours after the bank robbery, they tracked the vehicle to Pontiac and arrested Sexton during a traffic stop.

“Great as well as quick police work has put a bank robber quickly behind bars - again,” the sheriff’s office said.

Sexton was arraigned Oct. 23 on a bank robbery charge and is being held on a $1 million bond, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office said the man “has an extensive criminal history, which includes multiple convictions for breaking and entering.” He was also convicted in 2010 following bank robberies in Roseville and Saint Clair Shores, authorities said. He had been sentenced to 30 to 40 years in prison.

Independence Township is a suburb of Detroit.
