Two rams sprint past ‘nervous’ family hiking on trail in Montana, TikTok video shows
A Maryland family visiting a national park in Montana got a “memorable vacation” after seeing rams sprint past them while hiking.
Carrie Buist, known as @postcardsfromcarrie on TikTok, was visiting Glacier National Park when she came across hikers warning people to steer clear of an angry ram that was charging at folks, Buist said in an interview with McClatchy News.
Buist and her family were hiking the “very narrow Highland Trail where one side is the mountain and other is a cliff that just drops off,” she said.
The family of five turned around to avoid the ram, she said.
But when they were two miles from the trailhead they saw two different rams.
“We were scared at that point. We knew the other ram just on the other side just charged at prior hikers,” Buist said. “Our anxiety was elevated.”
Buist said she doesn’t think her family would’ve been “as nervous” had they not been told of a ram charging at people in the area.
“We were on the edge of the mountain so our fear was, ‘What do we do? Where do we go at this point?’” she said.
After seeing the rams at the trailhead, the family “bolted back” toward an area they knew had climbable rocks to get out of the way.
One ram sprinted past the family and the other followed shortly after, according to the Aug. 5 TikTok that has gathered more than 1.1 million views.
“At that point we were sandwiched between two sets of rams. The one that was charging at people and these two new ones so we just climbed the rocks until they passed us,” Buist said.
Buist said her and her family had “enough excitement for one day” after their encounter with the rams.
A few days later the family went on another hike on a different trail and came across a moose.
“My first thought was, ‘Oh no, I can’t deal with a moose right now.’ It was funny because had we not had that experience with the rams I’d probably be a little more excited about the moose,” Buist said.
