A man suspected of driving under the influence was arrested after his truck went off the road, over a cliff and into the ocean, California officials said.

In a June 25 post on Twitter, the California Highway Patrol said it responded to reports of a vehicle that “drove off the road into the Pacific Ocean from East Cliff Drive” in Santa Cruz.

The pictures show the white work truck being pulled from the water.

The 50-year-old man suffered “major injuries as a result of the crash,” police said.

The man was inside the vehicle during the crash, according to KRON.

The car drove through the safety railing, “plunging over the cliff and dropping 20 to 30 feet into the shallow water below the cliff,” according to CBS Bay Area.

McClatchy News reached out to the California Highway Patrol and is awaiting a response.

The man was later arrested on suspicion of DUI, police said.

Santa Cruz is about 80 miles southeast of San Francisco.
