Man dies after he’s found upside down and tangled in homemade zip line, TN cops say
A man died after becoming tangled in a homemade zip line, Tennessee police said.
Officers responded to a call at a canoe launch on a river around 2:30 p.m on May 21, according to a news release from the Franklin Police Department.
When they arrived, they saw a group of people performing CPR on a man on the bank, across the river from them, officers said.
The group told officers they heard cries for help and found a man hanging upside down from a homemade zip line across the river, according to the May 24 release.
The group swam to the man and saw he was partially submerged under the water of the river and tangled in the zip line, officers said.
The man was freed from the line and pulled to the bank where they began life saving measures, officers said.
Franklin officers and firefighters launched a rescue boat into the water to bring the man to the other side of the river where an ambulance was waiting, according to the release.
The man, identified as 60-year-old Thomas Hacker, was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Police said they are investigating the “tragic death,” but don’t suspect any foul play led to the accident.
Franklin is about 20 miles south of Nashville.
