A car traveled hundreds of feet down a sidewalk before striking a family out for a walk, killing a baby in a stroller, California authorities reported.

The 54-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after the crash in Las Flores on Sunday, April 2, California Highway Patrol officers said in a news release.

A 2017 Hyundai Sonata driven by the San Clemente man left the road and struck the family at about 4:15 p.m., CHP officers said.

A 34-year-old man and 31-year-old woman, both of Rancho Santa Margarita, were seriously hurt, the release said. Their 11-month-old baby was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Officers ask that anyone with information call 949-670-7030.

Las Flores is a community of 39,000 people in Orange County about 50 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
