UPDATE: The body of 69-year-old Scott Lavery was found around 1 p.m. on Feb. 16, two days after he first went missing, authorities said.

The original story is below.

A 69-year-old man from California was snowmobiling when he got separated from his friends in Idaho, deputies said.

Scott Lavery of Shingle Springs was last seen around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 at Robin’s Roost in Island Park, Idaho, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

Island Park is in eastern Idaho near the Wyoming border, and it’s popular for snowmobiling, skiing and snowshoeing during the winter.

Lavery had been snowmobiling with his friends before he went missing, deputies said.

Rescuers continued to search for him on Thursday, Feb. 16.

He is 5 feet, 6 inches tall, with gray hair and green eyes. He was wearing a black and gray coat with black snow pants.

He was riding an orange and black Polaris RMK 155 snowmobile.

Deputies ask anyone traveling to the area for Presidents Day weekend to look out for Lavery and to be prepared for the changing weather conditions.

Items people can bring to be prepared include an avalanche beacon, a whistle, flares, tarps, spare clothing, emergency food, headlamps, a lighter or fire starter and a small first aid kit, authorities said.

“We also recommend you let someone know your starting point and destination, as well as your expected arrival time,” deputies said in the Facebook post.

Anyone who saw Lavery in Island Park should contact the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office at 208-624-4482.
