Exhausted lost dog Mia found trapped in oil-filled pit, California rescuers say
When rescuers found her, an 11-year-old Siberian husky mix named Mia had already spent nearly a day trying desperately to escape from an oil-filled mechanic’s pit.
Mia, who fell into the 10-foot-deep well beneath a garage after becoming lost, was exhausted and weighed down by oil soaking her coat, San Diego officials said in a news release.
The garage owner called San Diego County Animal Services after finding Mia trapped in the pit Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Two officers responded to the Ramona garage and rescued Mia from the well, then took her to an animal shelter so medical workers could clean and treat her, the release said.
A microchip allowed the agency to reunite Mia with her owners, who said she had been missing since Saturday, Jan. 14, officials said.
Mia is expected to make a full recovery under her veterinarian’s care.
Ramona is a community of 22,000 people about 35 miles northeast of San Diego.
