Elementary schoolers hospitalized after eating marijuana-laced chips, CA officials say

Elementary school students in California fell ill and were taken to area hospitals after eating chips laced with marijuana, officials told news outlets.

At least six students at Enchanted Elementary School in Perris were sickened by the food on Thursday, May 12, TV station KTLA reported.

The incident is being investigated by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, which responded to the school around 11:30 a.m., according to the station.

A student took a bag of Cheetos to school and shared it with others, apparently unaware that the snack had been infused with marijuana, officials told CBS LA.

Soon, one of the students complained of stomach pain to a staff member, The Press-Enterprise reported. Staff found other children suffering the same symptoms and traced the cause back to the tainted chips.

The sickened students were taken by ambulance to area hospitals, the newspaper reported.

All of them have since recovered, officials told CBS LA.

No charges have been filed but the sheriff’s office continues to investigate.
