Mom enlists QAnon conspiracy group to help kidnap child in a ‘raid,’ Colorado cops say
A Colorado woman was arrested Dec. 30 in Montana for planning a “raid” to kidnap her child, police say.
A warrant for the arrest of Cynthia Abcug, 50, was issued in September after police learned that her daughter had told a caseworker that Abcug had a number of weapons in her Parker home and that “an armed man was living there,” KUSA reported.
Parker is located in the Denver metropolitan area.
Officials say they also learned that Abcug had become interested in conspiracy theories and “was spiraling down,” according to KUSA.
The daughter told officials that Abcug was planning a “raid” with members of the right-wing conspiracy group QAnon in an attempt to kidnap Abcug’s other child who’d been taken from her custody, the Daily Beast reported.
The daughter told police she feared people would be injured because “those people are evil Satan worshipers,” KUSA reported.
The QAnon conspiracy theory is associated with the far-right and based on the belief that a mysterious and unnamed government official called “Q” is revealing secret information with cryptic clues called “breadcrumbs,” according to the Daily Beast.
Many QAnon members believe there’s a deep state left-wing plot to take down President Trump, NPR reported.
Last Monday, police in Kalispell, Montana, pulled over Abcug after the FBI tipped off area officials that she was in the area, KPAX reported. The child was not in the car with Abcug but a man was briefly detained before being released, according to the outlet.
Abcug is charged with felony conspiracy to commit kidnapping and was taken Flathead County jail where she was held on $250,000 bond from Colorado, KPAX reported.
