Feds provide info during Winter Weather Awareness Week

The National Weather Service has designated Oct. 20-26 as Winter Weather Awareness Week in the Pacific Northwest, including the states of Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

Easy day, a new topic will be discussed on this NWS webpage.

Winter in the Pacific Northwest can be quite hazardous, with every type of winter weather possible from Bellingham to Boise - snow and ice in the mountains, heavy rains on the coast, and even biting cold with dangerous wind chill across western Washington and the Columbia Basin.

The weather service will issue the following Public Information Statements throughout the week:

Oct. 21 : Winter Weather Safety: Terminology, and Dissemination

Oct. 22 : Winter Weather Outlooks, Watches, Warnings and Advisories

Oct. 23 : Blizzards, Snow & Ice Storms, Wind Chill, and Avalanches

Oct. 24 : Floods

Oct. 25 : Windstorms (east and west of Cascades)

Oct. 26 : Summary of Winter Weather and Awareness
