Police seek semi driver after pedestrian struck on Meridian

Bellingham police are hoping to track down the driver of a semi truck that struck a woman crossing Meridian Street in the early morning hours of Friday, Jan. 29.

The woman, 39, “appears to have walked into the side” of the northbound semi’s trailer as she crossed the street eastward mid-block in the 4200 block of Meridian Street, according to a press release sent out by Bellingham police Thursday evening.

She was seriously hurt in the 3:30 a.m. collision. Her name and condition have not been released.

Police suspect the semi driver likely didn’t know the woman had been hit. A friend walking with the woman told officers the truck had an attached flatbed trailer with no load.

The driver of the truck, and any witnesses, are asked to call Officer Scott Stewart at 360-778-8762, or Sgt. Dennis James at 360-778-8683.

No other details about the incident have been made public.
