Police are warning the public about a man who groped and growled at a woman Tuesday morning, Nov. 17, on the Railroad Trail that runs through Bellingham.

The woman passed by the man on the gravel Railroad Trail near St. Paul Street, according to the Bellingham Police Department.

She came back again a few minutes later, around 9:35 a.m., and saw he was still in the same general area, said Lt. Bob Vander Yacht. This time as she got near he grabbed her buttocks. She yelled at him, and the man growled at her. She called police, and he ran off.

Officers could not find him Tuesday.

He was described as in his 20s, about 6 feet tall, of “medium to darker complexion,” wearing a gray sweatshirt under a light brown or gray jacket. He had about a week’s growth of mustache.

No similar incidents had been reported Tuesday.

“But one is enough,” Vander Yacht said.

Tips can be directed to Detective Sue Howell at 360-778-8611. After hours, dial 911.
