Teen dies in car crash north of Kendall

A teenager from the Peaceful Valley area died in a car crash Saturday afternoon, Oct. 17.

Calvin Chase Ledet, 18, was driving a 1990 Honda Accord north on Tilbury Road, a half-mile straightaway southeast of Sumas, when he ran a stop sign at Limestone Road around 2:30 p.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.

The Honda crashed into a rock wall at a “high rate” and flipped, according to the state patrol. Ledet was ejected from the totaled car. Troopers believe he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

Ledet died at the scene.

Authorities gave no sign of whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

Ledet grew up in the neighborhood. He attended Nooksack Valley High School, where he ran on the track team.
