A fire that burned three buildings behind the former Frosty Inn early Monday could be arson, according to the Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office.
A cause for the fire has not been officially determined, but Fire Marshal’s Office investigator Mitch Nolze said he cannot rule out arson.
Nolze said it’s also possible that electrical issues ignited the flames. The cause of the fire likely will remain undetermined due to the extent of the fire damage and because there was limited information from witnesses.
The fire started in a small shed behind the former Frosty Inn, 7461 Mount Baker Highway, around 1:30 a.m. The flames quickly spread to a garage and home on the property before firefighters arrived and knocked the fire down.
A man living in a mobile home on the property was unhurt.
