Bellingham police looking for woman who hit 12-year-old, drove away

Police are looking for a woman who hit a 12-year-old boy with her car, dropped him off at school and drove away Tuesday morning, Oct. 6.

The boy was riding his bike when he was struck by the car on Cottonwood Avenue, said Bellingham Police Sgt. Mike Scanlon. He reported that the woman stopped, put him in her car and dropped him off at Shuksan Middle School just blocks away.

The 12-year-old went to the school nurse, who called police. The boy had some minor injuries to his leg and a cut on his face. He was taken to the hospital, Scanlon said.

Police would like to talk to the woman and get her side of the story, Scanlon said.

The woman is described as white with red hair, and in her late 30s or early 40s. She drove a brownish four-door car, possibly an older Toyota.

Police are asking anyone with information to call officer Dusty Bruland at 360-778-8653.
