An Everson woman remained in critical condition at St. Joseph hospital Wednesday, Aug. 19, a day after she was struck by an SUV while biking northeast of Bellingham.

Sylvia Israel Woodbury, 69, swerved on her bicycle around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday as she rode west on East Smith Road near Sand Road, according to the Washington State Patrol.

She was hit by a westbound Honda Pilot and thrown from the bike.

Woodbury, who wore a helmet, suffered a severe injury to the side of her head, witnesses said. She was unconscious as she was taken to the hospital.

As of Wednesday she remained in critical condition, a hospital supervisor said.

The driver of the Honda, Margaret Ishii, 67, of Bellingham, hasn’t been charged or cited.

The speed limit on that stretch of Smith Road is 50 mph.
