Bellingham man arrested in Mount Vernon on suspicion of raping a child
A 33-year-old Bellingham man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of raping a child, according to the Bellingham Police Department.
BPD Lt. Claudia Murphy said police were made aware of a sexual assault case involving a child on March 8. They conducted an investigation and determined that the man had raped a child under age 10 multiple times.
Officers with the Mount Vernon Police Department arrested the suspect was Thursday morning in Mount Vernon. He was then taken to the Whatcom County Jail, Murphy said. He was booked on suspicion of multiple charges, including three counts of first-degree rape of a child.
The suspect had yet to be formally charged as of Friday morning.
