Whatcom County man arrested after theft of more than $15,000 in jewelry reported
Deputies arrested a man Wednesday who is suspected of stealing jewelry from a Whatcom County residence.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a residential burglary near Maples Falls on March 4, and began an investigation, Deb Slater with the Sheriff’s Office told The Herald.
The resident reported about $15,000 of gold jewelry missing and told investigators it was likely stolen by a man he knows. The resident had an active protection order against the suspect, according to Slater.
The investigation revealed evidence the man the resident suspected had recently pawned several pieces of gold jewelry in Port Angeles. When shown pictures of the jewelry, the resident told investigators it was his property.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of first-degree theft, violation of a domestic violence no-contact order, first-degree trafficking in stolen property and residential burglary, all class B felonies. He had yet to be formally charged as of Thursday afternoon.
