Bellingham man arrested after allegedly pointing a handgun at another man
Police arrested a Bellingham man Tuesday afternoon who allegedly pointed a gun at another man, according to Lt. Claudia Murphy with The Bellingham Police Department.
A witness reported the suspect, 33, drove up on a motorcycle beside the other man and tried to initiate a fight, according to Murphy. The suspect allegedly brandished a handgun and pointed it at the other man.
A police investigation determined the suspect had sent messages to the man in the past saying he wanted to kill him, Murphy said.
On Tuesday, March 3, the suspect arrived at the man’s home on Hilda Lane and asked him to come over. The man saw the suspect reach into a saddlebag on the motorcycle and ran in the home out of fear the suspect was going to shoot him, according to Murphy.
The suspect left the area before police arrived, Murphy said. He was later found in the 800 block of Marine drive and was arrested without incident. Police reportedly found a Glock 48 in the suspect’s residence following the execution of a search warrant on the building.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of felony harassment for allegedly making death threats over text, then showing up at the home while brandishing a firearm, Murphy said.
He also was arrested on suspicion of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, as he is restricted from owning a gun for unrelated reasons, Murphy said. He had yet to be formally charged as of Wednesday afternoon.
