Lummi Nation authorities make two arrests in human trafficking investigation

Officers with the Lummi Nation Police Department arrested two people were Friday as part of an investigation into human trafficking and child rape.

A 41-year-old woman and 39-year-old man were booked into Whatcom County Jail within an hour and 15 minutes of each other Friday afternoon. Both are identified by the same police case number.

Both individuals face charges of first-degree human trafficking, first-degree child rape, harassment and intimidating a witness. The woman also faces charges of second-degree assault, child neglect and criminal accomplice, while the man faces additional charges of misdemeanor assault, unlawful imprisonment and patronizing a prostitute.

The man and woman are being held without bail. Neither has yet to be formally charged.

The Herald reached out to the Lummi Nation Police Department but did not receive a response.
