Disturbance call leads to arrest of Maple Falls woman accused of assaulting neighbor
A 42-year-old woman was arrested Thursday evening on suspicion of second-degree assault for allegedly attacking and macing a neighbor.
Police were dispatched to the 7700 block of Silver Lake Road in Maple Falls on Monday night for a reported assault, according to Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Amy Cloud. A resident reported to police that the woman and an unidentified man knocked on their door and accused him of throwing a rock through the pair’s window.
Cloud said the pair pulled the male resident outside and threw him to the ground, which was covered in glass. The man kicked him, and the woman sprayed him in the face with what he believed was bear spray, causing him to go temporarily blind.
The man’s eyes were red and watery with several cuts when deputies arrived, Cloud said. There was also an odor of chemical aerosol spray.
When the 42-year-old woman was contacted by police Thursday, she reportedly admitted to confronting her neighbor and macing him. She is being held in jail without bail ahead of her first court appearance. Prosecutors have yet to formally charge her.
