The Bellingham Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run that occurred Sunday night that left a 32-year-old woman injured.

Police were initially called to the 1100 block of E. Sunset Dr. at 11:24 p.m. for a report of a domestic altercation in which a man and woman were hitting each other, BPD Lt. Claudia Murphy said. While they were on their way, they learned that one of the people involved had been hit by a car.

Murphy said the argument “placed them both in the roadway.” As they were fighting, a car drove toward them. The man tried to push the woman out of the way, but she was still struck by the vehicle. She was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Bellingham Fire Department with minor injuries.

The car stopped for a few seconds after striking the woman, Murphy said, then the driver left the area heading east. The vehicle was described as a red sedan.

BPD is still working to identify the driver. Anyone with information is asked to call 360-778-8611 or visit cob.org/tips.
