A 37-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly crashing a stolen car through the backyard fence of an Everson home.

The Everson Police Department said a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was reported missing out of Bellingham the morning of Monday, Jan. 12. The car was being tracked through an onboard GPS system, and an Everson police officer tried to initiate a traffic stop after spotting the vehicle.

The driver didn’t stop, police said, and eventually left the roadway and crashed through the backyard fence of a house on the 2000 block of East Pole Rd. The driver fled on foot, but was detained with the help of Washington State Patrol.

The man was booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of motor vehicle theft and released on his own recognizance on Tuesday evening. He had yet to be formally charged as of Jan. 14.
