Whatcom County authorities have arrested a woman accused of purchasing more than $4,000 worth of merchandise with a stolen credit card.

The suspect allegedly stole the card from a mailbox in May. The card’s rightful owner told police it was used in various purchases around that time, according to Deb Slater with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.

Video footage from several businesses led law enforcement to identify the suspect as a 35-year-old Bellingham woman, Slater said. However, the woman could not be located at the time.

Deputies received a tip Jan. 5 that the suspect was in the Blaine area. Law enforcement then located the woman in her vehicle and arrested her. She was booked into the Whatcom County Jail without incident, Slater said.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of financial fraud and second-degree theft. No formal charges had been filed as of Jan. 8.
