The Bellingham Police Department is investigating a potential hit-and-run that left a cyclist injured Friday.

Bellingham Police Department Lt. Claudia Murphy said a man on a bicycle was struck by a car while leaving the parking lot near Little Caesars to cross Northwest Avenue at 6:40 p.m. The driver was turning into the parking lot, Murphy said, and stopped momentarily. The driver reportedly fled north on Northwest Avenue.

The cyclist was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham for treatment. Murphy said the man did not have required lights on his bike when he entered the roadway, but no citations were issued.

There is no description of the vehicle or suspect at this time. Because the cyclist was the only witness, Murphy said authorities have not yet confirmed whether a hit-and-run actually occurred.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Bellingham Police Department’s tip line at 360-778-8611 or visit cob.org/tips.
