Jurors heard testimony Tuesday and Wednesday, and delivered a verdict Friday morning. The case was prosecuted by Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecutor Erik Sigmar and Deputy Prosecutor Bryce Vanderyacht.

“The Prosecutor’s Office thanks the jury for their diligent consideration of the case,” Sigmar said.

Del Castillo’s defense attorney did not respond to requests for comment.

Del Castillo was remanded into the custody of Whatcom County Jail on Friday without bail. His sentencing is scheduled for February.

Sigmar said he will be requesting the standard range of 15 to 20 months in prison followed by three years in community custody.
