Bellingham police have arrested a man suspected of being involved in the assault of another man in Bellingham.

Police responded to the incident around 7:55 p.m. Oct. 7 in the 100 block of East Holly Street.

The man who was attacked told police he had been assaulted by a group of men, one of which was later identified as Cecil Leroy Harvey, 29, according to Lt. Claudia Murphy with The Bellingham Police Department.

The assaulted man said Harvey called him a derogatory name and told him to come into an alley or things would get worse. The man went into the alley and was hit by Harvey and fell over. Harvey was with a group of men at the time. The man guessed he was hit or kicked about six times, according to Murphy, and he received a cut on his head that required staples.

The victim said the group of men, along with Harvey, left the area immediately after the assault, Murphy said.

Police later approached Harvey in the same area of East Holly Street on Oct. 18. He was arrested and is in custody at Whatcom County Jail.
