Authorities arrested a Whatcom County man who picked up a child from school while illegally carrying a firearm.

Danny Lynn McKee, 41, went to Lynden High School to pick up his ill child Sept. 23, according to court documents. Security at the school reported to police McKee was carrying a holstered firearm.

A police background check revealed McKee does not have a concealed-pistol license, and he is a convicted felon who is not allowed to own a firearm, according to court documents.

Lynden police arrested McKee on Sept. 24. He has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, a class B felony, and unlawful possession of a firearm on school premises, a misdemeanor.

He has since bonded out of custody at Whatcom County Jail.
