Whatcom County authorities investigating stabbing involving dental instrument

Bellingham police arrested a suspect following an alleged assault involving a dental tool.

Police responded to the 2600 block of West Maplewood Avenue around 6:45 a.m. Sept. 27 for an assault call, Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy told The Herald.

Tibrucio V. Almojera, 42, of Deming, allegedly came to visit a person at the residence, then refused to leave. The resident called another man to help, and when he arrived he told Almojera to leave, according to Murphy.

A fight occurred between the two men, during which Almojera allegedly stabbed the man three times in the back with a Sickle Scaler tool used by dentists, Murphy said. Almojera then left the scene on an electric bike.

Ferndale police informed the BPD they had detained Almojera around 10:05 a.m. He was arrested by Bellingham police and was booked into the Whatcom County Jail.

He was charged with second-degree assault with substantial bodily harm, a class B felony. He remainsed in custody at Whatcom County Jail as of Oct. 2.
