Officers with the Ferndale Police Department have arrested a man suspected of raping of a child.

Gavin Joseph Glyzinski, 51, of Ferndale allegedly sent texts to a minor Aug. 5 making sexually explicit comments and asking to meet with them, according to Megan Juenemann with the city of Ferndale.

The child met with Glyzinski the following day and later told police they were frozen in fear of the man due to his age and size, according to court documents.

Glyzinski reportedly had non-consensual sexual contact with the child, according to Juenemann.

Officers with the Ferndale Police Department arrested Glyzinski Sept. 24, Juenemann said. He was booked into Whatcom County Jail.

He has been charged with second-degree rape of a child, a class A felony, and communicating with a child for an immoral purpose, a gross misdemeanor.

He remained in custody at Whatcom County Jail as of Sept. 25.
