Suspect in custody after man stabbed during confrontation in Blaine alley
Authorities arrested a man in Whatcom County after he allegedly stabbed another man in the neck with a knife.
Edward Lee Castillo, 46, allegedly started talking to two men around 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1 in an alley behind 746 Peace Portal Drive, near the Wheelhouse Tavern in Blaine.
The two men did not want to speak with Castillo, Blaine Patrol Sgt. Tim Richardson told The Herald.
That allegedly angered Castillo, who then attacked one of the men, stabbing him in the left side of the neck, upper lip and left hip, Richardson said.
The second man fought back against Castillo, punching him in the face. Castillo then left the area on a motorcycle, according to court documents.
When officers arrived, a bartender was applying pressure to the wounds of the stabbed man, who was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center — in stable condition — and was later released.
Castillo called 911 and turned himself over to authorities Aug. 5 at a home in Custer. He was booked into Whatcom County Jail without incident and has been charged with first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, a class A felony.
