Bellingham man arrested on suspicion of stealing $9K in sports cards
Authorities arrested a man they suspect of stealing $9,000 worth of sports cards and trying to sell them to a Bellingham card shop, according to Deb Slater with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.
The theft was reported to the police on July 7 by the owner of the cards, who is known to the suspect. The owner confirmed the cards were stolen when he found some of them in the shop, Slater told The Bellingham Herald.
The 32-year-old Bellingham suspect left some of the cards at the shop to be verified, leaving his name and email address.
The suspect allegedly tried to sell the cards at a second card shop in Bellingham, but the employees did not buy them because they suspected they were stolen, according to Slater.
The suspect was arrested on July 24 for first-degree theft and first-degree trafficking in stolen property. He remained in custody at Whatcom County Jail as of Friday afternoon.
