Man arrested after threatening to kill Bellingham woman at work, police say
Police arrested a man after he allegedly harassed a woman in Bellingham, following her into her place of work and threatening to kill her.
Police were called to an apartment complex in the 200 block of Samish Way in Bellingham at about 3 p.m. May 16.
Police said the woman worked at the apartment complex. The suspect, who used to be in a relationship with the woman, came there that day to confront her about using her vehicle, which she refused, according to Bellingham Police Department Lt. Claudia Murphy.
The suspect then waited in the parking lot to see which apartment the woman entered for work, Murphy told The Bellingham Herald. He followed her inside and chased her in an attempt to prevent her from calling the police, Murphy said.
The suspect blocked the door, preventing the woman from escaping, according to Murphy. When he learned police were on the way, he made a threat that the woman’s life would “end tonight” and left the scene..
Around 9:50 p.m. the suspect called police to discuss the incident. He met with officers in the 250 block of Orleans Street, where he was taken into custody without incident. He was arrested on suspicion of felony harassment and unlawful imprisonment, both class C felonies.
He remained in custody at the Whatcom County jail as of May 20.
