Woman set truck on fire with someone inside, Whatcom County authorities say
Authorities arrested a suspect after she allegedly set a truck on fire in Whatcom County while someone was inside it.
An investigation found that the suspect, Dianna Michelle Kim, 51, poured gasoline on and inside the truck before lighting it on fire and leaving at around 10 a.m. on May 4, according to Amy Cloud with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.
Kim told the authorities that the person inside the truck had stolen the vehicle from them. The individual in the truck disagreed, telling deputies they purchased the vehicle from the suspect for $15,000, according to Cloud.
The Bellingham Herald could not confirm whether the individual inside the truck sustained any injuries from the fire. However, the fire caused an estimated $3,200 in damage to the truck, Cloud told The Bellingham Herald.
The truck was parked in the 3400 block of McGee Road at the time of the incident, Cloud told The Bellingham Herald.
Kim was arrested and charged with first-degree arson, a class A felony. She was also arrested on suspicion of malicious mischief, a class C felony, and reckless endangerment, a gross misdemeanor.
Kim has since been bonded out of custody.
