Two hospitalized after tractor runs over motorcycle in Lynden

Two men were sent to the hospital after a motorcycle they were riding crashed and was run over by a large tractor Friday morning, Aug. 7, according to Lynden police.

Craig Pike, 47, of Everson was pulling a farm sprayer out of an ARCO gas station at 8247 Guide Meridian Road around 9:45 a.m. when the tractor collided with a motorcycle headed south driven by Christopher McGrady, 21, of Ferndale. The left rear tire of the tractor then ran over the motorcycle, said Lynden Police Deputy Chief John Billester.

Paramedics transported McGrady and Norman Litts, 19, a passenger on the motorcycle, to St. Joseph hospital with unknown injuries. McGrady was treated and released, and Litts, of Bellingham, remained hospitalized Friday in satisfactory condition, said hospital spokeswoman Amy Cloud.

The gas station Pike was pulling out of is next to Scholten’s Equipment, which sells tractors and farm equipment.

Pike was not issued a citation Friday, but he may be ticketed for failing to yield to the motorcycle, Billester said. Both men on the motorcycle were wearing helmets.
