Whatcom County man accused of assault, no-contact order violation charged with 3 felonies
Authorities arrested a Whatcom County man who is accused of entering a Lynden home in violation of a no-contact order and assaulting a woman inside the home.
Leodegario Medina Sanchez, 27, is accused of entering the home along Abbot Road near Lynden around 1 a.m. March 15. The victim of the alleged assault had a no-contact order in place following an assault that was reported in October. Sanchez is awaiting his trial for the October charges.
During the March 15 incident, Sanchez allegedly took away the woman’s phone to prevent her from calling authorities, then grabbed her and dragged her outside into his truck, according to court records.
The woman exited the truck, but reportedly was injured by Sanchez when he attempted to stop her, according to the court records. After escaping back inside the home, the woman locked the door and called 911.
Sanchez left the premises before law enforcement arrived, and officers could not track him down initially.
Three days later, on March 18, deputies found Sanchez in the 6400 block of Mission Road, and he was taken into custody without incident.
He has been charged with first-degree burglary, a class A felony; protection order violation assault, a class C felony; unlawful imprisonment, a class C felony; and interfering with domestic violence reporting, a gross misdemeanor. He has since been bonded out of custody.
