Whatcom deputies arrest Puyallup man after report of road rage shooting near Ferndale
Whatcom County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Puyallup man following a report of a drive-by shooting that allegedly was the result of a road rage incident in Bellingham, just east of Ferndale.
Corey Blenheim, 47, allegedly passed another vehicle on the shoulder of West Axton Road around 10:15 p.m. Feb. 18 before turning north onto Northwest Drive. Witnesses said Blenheim pointed a handgun out the window when he passed. When the two vehicles turned onto Northwest Drive, he fired the weapon toward Woodlawn Cemetery, according to Deb Slater with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.
No injuries have been reported.
Witnesses provided police with a description of Blenheim’s vehicle, and deputies pulled the vehicle over around 10:24 p.m. in the 400 block of W. Wiser Lake Road.
Police found a handgun and ammunition inside Blenheim’s vehicle, and the passenger confirmed the suspect had fired a gun in a road rage incident earlier in the day, Slater said. Deputies located a shell casing near the alleged shooting site that matched the label on the rounds found in Blenheim’s vehicle.
Blenheim has since been charged with drive-by shooting, a class B felony, and unlawful display of a weapon, a gross misdemeanor. He has posted bail on a $10,000 bond and been released from the Whatcom County Jail.
