Deputies arrest elusive suspect after Maple Falls traffic stop leads to a brief chase

Deputies with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man in Maple Falls on Jan. 18 after receiving a tip regarding his location a description of a vehicle he may be using.

Deputies located a vehicle matching the description and found Jordan Chad Mitchell, 26, inside, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater. Deputies were searching for Mitchell because of an outstanding warrant from 2022.

When Mitchell, 26, saw the deputies arrive, he attempted to flee. Deputies apprehended him and a body search revealed a concealed handgun with no serial number, metal knuckles and a butterfly knife along with multiple containers of fentanyl and methamphetamine, a digital scale and a notepad with a list of names with money amounts next to them, Slater said.

Mitchell had an outstanding warrant from July 2022 for attempting to elude a police vehicle, a class C felony, and possession of a dangerous weapon.

He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, both class B felonies.
