Authorities arrested one suspect and another remains at large following an assault and attempted robbery at a Bellingham motel.

A man and a woman were staying at the Shamrock Motel at 4133 West Maplewood Ave. on Dec. 17 when they noticed their room door begin to open from the outside. The woman walked over to the door and saw two people, recognizing one of them as Rico Spencer Hill, 31, a woman dressed in black with a black face mask who was holding a green metal baseball bat, according to court documents. The other suspect, a man who has not been identified, was not known to the woman in the room.

Hill then asked where the man in the room was by name and pushed past the woman, hitting her in the head with the bat, according to Lt. Claudia Murphy with the Bellingham Police Department. A fight ensued between the two women.

Hill reportedly attempted to steal a television and gaming console from the room. Murphy said the male staying at the motel prevented Hill from stealing the items.

Police located Hill and took her into custody the afternoon of Dec. 28 near Franklin and Ohio Streets. The second suspect remains at large.

Hill has been charged with first-degree robbery. She was detained on a $10,000 appearance bond and has since been released.
