One person died in a Ferndale apartment fire Thursday morning and another is in critical condition, according to a news release from the city of Ferndale.

The fire department responded around 7:04 a.m. in the 2100 block of Eastview Palace in Ferndale, with the first arriving crews encountering a fire on the second floor of the building.

The fire was under control in under 30 minutes, and members of the Ferndale Police Department and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
