Bellingham police arrested a 40-year-old man who is accused of pulling a knife on two minors Thursday, Nov. 21, along Railroad Avenue in Bellingham.

Police responded to a report of an assault with a knife and soon learned a juvenile male had been in a verbal argument with an adult male, who brandished a knife. Another juvenile stepped in to help, and a physical struggle broke out, according to Megan Peters with the Bellingham Police Department.

The man swung the knife, damaging the second juvenile’s jacket, before a second adult male stepped in to help, Peters said.

Multiple witnesses flagged down officers who arrived soon after.

The man with the knife started to leave the scene, and officers used a drag stabilized baton (bean bag launcher) and a Taser to subdue the man before taking him into custody.

The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, a class A felony, and felony harassment. He was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment before being booked into the Whatcom County Jail.
