Police say an Everett man who was reported to be street racing in Bellingham crashed into another vehicle, sending a mother and her two children to the hospital.

Colin Orlando Gomez, 19, was driving north in the southbound lane of Chuckanut Drive around 5:35 p.m. at 60 mph in a 15 mph zone when he passed into oncoming traffic, according to Megan Peters with the Bellingham Police Department. Gomez reportedly crossed a double yellow line and crashed into another vehicle on Chuckanut Drive near Spokane Street.

When officers arrived, both vehicles were in the southbound lane and two children who had been in the second vehicle were outside. They told officers their mother was still stuck inside. Officers checked on the woman and told her to stay put until medical aid could arrive.

Multiple witnesses told police Gomez was racing another vehicle just prior to the crash. Officers also checked on Gomez’s vehicle and found him to be injured as well. All four people involved in the collision were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center.

According to BPD, Gomez’s last known address was in Everett.

Gomez was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault and two counts of reckless endangerment.
