Assault near an encampment left a man critically injured. Bellingham police seek details
Witnesses are being sought in an attack that critically injured a 31-year-old man last week near a Cordata-area encampment, Bellingham police said Monday.
Few details were immediately available about the nature of the assault on Christoph Grasso, police said in social media posts.
Grasso was in critical condition Monday at Harborview Medical Center, a hospital spokesperson told The Bellingham Herald.
“Bellingham police and other first responders are currently on scene at Northwest near Bakerview investigating a significant assault,” police said Friday. Grasso’s injuries were “potentially life-threatening.”
Police radio conversations from about 9 a.m. Friday indicated that Grasso was bleeding heavily from a head wound near an encampment in the woods northwest of the intersection of Northwest Drive and West Bakerview Road.
Police said they want to talk to anyone who was in the area from the early morning hours through approximately 9:30 a.m. Friday, especially if they saw something unusual.
“Do you have video footage from a residential or commercial security camera that shows anything in the area surrounding that area that perhaps shows someone entering or exiting the area?” police said.
